Janet Finch-Saunders AM today attended the launch of Action on Hearing Loss Cymru’s report Hearing Matters.
Commenting on the findings of the report, Janet said:
“It is concerning to learn that over 6,000 people across Wales could be at risk of isolation and mental health issues if the closure of volunteer led clinics goes ahead in 2016.
“I am joining Action on Hearing Loss Cymru today to call on the Welsh Government and Besti Cadwaladr University Health Board to protect and safeguard the provision of Hear to Help clinics here in North Wales and Aberconwy. These clinics cost just £25 per person, per year, and are a vital resource here – particularly given our ageing population, which means that hearing loss incidences could rise to affect 1 in 5 people in Wales.
“It is heartening to note the ambition of Action on Hearing Loss Cymru that, with proper support and investment, we may see treatments for hearing loss and tinnitus being available in 2020.
“Hearing loss, tinnitus and related conditions, continue to have a huge impact on the quality of life of sufferers, and I am proud to support to work of Action on Hearing Loss Cymru.”
