Transport Minister Edwina Hart has refuelled an on-going row about congestion on the A55 after stating she never encounters traffic jams on the busy stretch.
Trouble flared earlier this month when Ms Hart claimed lengthy queues on the dual-carriageway were caused by ‘poor driver behaviour’.
Today during a session at the Senedd Tory AM Janet Finch-Saunders said traffic concerns - including roadworks- were being raised by “practically everyone” and called for Ms Hart to act.
The Minister stressed the Welsh Government had done “everything we can to mitigate” and that roadworks had to be carried out.
Ms Hart added: “There will be some element of delays, but, I have to say, every time I seem to travel on the A55, I’m unencumbered by delays.”
Her comments triggered outrage from North Wales AMs who said she was either “very lucky” or “arrogant”.
Aberconwy AM Ms Finch-Saunders said she was “shocked and appalled by the Minister’s terse response” because her post bag overflowed with complaints about the gridlock .
She said: “It was arrogant enough for Ms Hart to blame drivers themselves for the congestion, but for her to dismiss these concerns outright will further anger North Wales residents.”
