In May, Janet Finch-Saunders MS, Member of the Senedd for Bangor Conwy Môn, submitted a series of Written Questions to the First Minister, including:

“What steps is the Welsh Government taking to proceed with the creation of a third Menai Crossing?”

And:

“What steps is the Welsh Government taking to remove the roundabouts on junctions 15 and 16 of the A55?”

In his responses, the First Minister confirmed that the A55, A494 and A483 Transport Needs and Resilience Review, which includes consideration of the Third Menai Crossing and the two roundabouts, is due to be published this summer.

Janet commented:

“I have long campaigned for the removal of the Junction 15 and 16 roundabouts. In recent years, there have been 13 collisions at Junction 15 (Llanfairfechan) and a further 10 at Junction 16 (Penmaenmawr). Their removal was also supported through the £9 million consultation carried out by the previous Welsh Labour Government.

“I will continue to call on First Minister Rhun ap Iorwerth MS to commit to removing these roundabouts. Delays have allowed this pattern of accidents and injuries to continue for far too long.

“The Menai crossings are vital to local communities and the regional economy. We have repeatedly seen the significant impact of closures, including last week, as well as the congestion caused by ongoing repair works.

“I have urged the First Minister to work with me to ensure the Third Menai Crossing is delivered for the people of Ynys Môn and North Wales.”

Ym mis Mai, cyflwynodd Janet Finch-Saunders, AS Bangor Conwy Môn, gyfres o Gwestiynau Ysgrifenedig i'r Prif Weinidog, gan gynnwys:

"Pa gamau y mae Llywodraeth Cymru yn eu cymryd i fwrw ymlaen â chreu trydydd modd o groesi Afon Menai?"

A:

"Pa gamau y mae Llywodraeth Cymru yn eu cymryd i gael gwared ar y cylchfannau ar gyffyrdd 15 ac 16 yr A55?"

Yn ei ymatebion, cadarnhaodd y Prif Weinidog fod yr Adolygiad o Anghenion Trafnidiaeth a Gwydnwch yr A55, yr A494 a'r A483, sy'n cynnwys ystyried y trydydd modd o groesi Afon Menai a'r ddwy gylchfan, i fod i gael ei gyhoeddi yr haf hwn.

Meddai Janet:

"Rydw i wedi ymgyrchu ers tro byd dros gael gwared ar y cylchfannau ar Gyffyrdd 15 a 16. Yn ystod y blynyddoedd diwethaf, bu 13 gwrthdrawiad yng Nghyffordd 15 (Llanfairfechan) a 10 arall yng Nghyffordd 16 (Penmaenmawr). Cefnogwyd cael gware arnyn nhw hefyd drwy'r ymgynghoriad gwerth £9 miliwn a gynhaliwyd gan Lywodraeth Lafur flaenorol Cymru.

"Byddaf yn parhau i alw ar y Prif Weinidog Rhun ap Iorwerth AS i ymrwymo i gael gwared ar y cylchfannau hyn. Mae oedi wedi caniatáu i'r patrwm hwn o ddamweiniau ac anafiadau barhau am lawer rhy hir.

"Mae croesfannau’r Fenai yn hanfodol i gymunedau lleol a'r economi ranbarthol. Rydyn ni wedi gweld dro ar ôl tro effaith sylweddol cau’r croesfannau, gan gynnwys yr wythnos diwethaf, yn ogystal â'r tagfeydd a achosir gan waith atgyweirio parhaus.

"Rydw i wedi annog y Prif Weinidog i weithio gyda mi i sicrhau bod y trydydd modd o groesi Afon Menai yn cael ei gyflawni er budd trigolion Ynys Môn a’r Gogledd."
