Janet Finch-Saunders AM has slammed the Welsh Government in failing to effectively monitor the financial arrangements at Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, which has failed to break even on its accounts in all of the past three years.
Publication of NHS Financial Performance for 2016-17, showed that four of the seven Welsh Health Boards had not achieved their financial duty to break even over three years.
Janet said:
“The Welsh Labour Government have been monitoring the financial position of BCUHB since placing it under special measures over two years ago, so how has it allowed the Board to get into the financial situation?
“It is most concerning that the Health Board has failed in its financial duty to break even, but even more so that the Welsh Government have been specifically intervening in the Board.
“What have they actually been doing? The First Minister and the Cabinet Secretary have some tough questions to answer as to how they allowed this situation to have arisen for the third year in a row.”
