Janet Finch-Saunders, Assembly Member for Aberconwy and Welsh Conservative Older People’s Champion, was pleased to speak out in support of the calls lead by Angela Burns AM, Shadow Health Secretary, for a Wales wide Sepsis Awareness Campaign.
Following the response of the Welsh Government, the Member for Aberconwy has spoken of her disappointment at the Welsh Government’s unwillingness to invest money and resources into a campaign, especially has the Scottish Government have agreed to do so.
Janet said:
“Sepsis is a serious killer. Annually 44,000 die because of the condition.
“The tragic fact is that some deaths might have been avoided if there was better awareness of sepsis.
“That is why I called on the Welsh Government in the Senedd to run a public awareness campaign. Ideally, this would see people of all ages across Wales educated about the condition – be they in school or retired.
“Sadly, unlike the Scottish Government who recently launched a sepsis campaign, Vaughan Gething AM and the Welsh Government refused to do so.
“In the meantime, I would be grateful if everyone could take a moment to consider the advise given by the UK Sepsis Trust on how to spot sepsis, as this really is a silent killer”.
