Welsh Government have finally agreed to complete the design of the zebra crossing for the A470 in Glan Conwy. This follows years of campaigning and pressure from the community and Janet Finch-Saunders, Assembly Member for Aberconwy, for a safe crossing.
The scheme will be programmed for implementation early next year.
Commenting on the positive response received from the Welsh Government, Janet said:
“The Welsh Government have roadblocked our calls for a crossing for years, but our persistent tailgating of the Minister for Economy and Transport has paid off.
“I am delighted that the Minister has finally agreed to order the completion of the design of the zebra crossing, and that we should see it in place early next year.
“Going forward, I have already started work to see this project linked with the proposed pedestrian and cycle bridge across the railway to RSPB and the scheme for black cat roundabouts.
“The Welsh Government has to make the most of every penny of tax payer’s money spent.
“So to maximise the benefits of public spend on three projects in Glan Conwy, it makes sense that they be linked by a cycle path, so I have proposed that to the Minister”.

Written Assembly Question by Janet:
Further to WAQ79063, will the Minister list the actions the Welsh Government is taking following the meeting on 14 November 2019?
Response from the Minister for Economy and Transport:
The attendees at the public consultation were unanimously in favour of the option to remove the existing pedestrian crossing and provide a new 4m wide zebra crossing north of the access to the railway station, opposite the Cross Keys public house. Welsh Government have therefore commissioned the Trunk Road Agent to complete the design of the zebra crossing and a shared use path for cyclists and pedestrians from the crossing to Cae Ffwt Business Park. Subject to completion of the design and awarding the contract, the scheme will be programmed for implementation early next year.
Response from Janet:
Further to WAQ79132 will the Minister consider extending the shared use path from the Cae Ffwt Business Park to Black Cat Roundabouts?
