Following Marine Mammal Medics reporting the sad death of a Striped Dolphin on the Isles of Scilly, just of Lands End, the Harbour Porpoise Champion, Janet Finch-Saunders, has once again called for the Welsh Government to do all it can to safeguard marine mammals in Welsh Waters.
Commenting on the matter Janet said:
“It is deeply upsetting to hear of any marine mammal, whether that be a dolphin, harbour porpoise, whale ect, dying after being washed up on a beach.
"However, it does once again highlight that these magnificent and intelligent animals need to be safeguarded to ensure that human activities are not detrimentally impacting upon their population.
"I would urge the Welsh Government to develop and implement a strategy to monitor, safeguard and conserve marine mammals in Welsh Waters.
"While organisations such as the Marine Mammal Medics are continuing to save the lives of countless animals each year, it is clear that the Welsh Government must step up and ensure that they take every possible step to mitigate the impact of human activity in our sea’s on these creatures."
