Following a recent report by the acting senior coroner for North West Wales, which revealed “matters giving rise to concern” in relation to social care, the Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy – Janet Finch-Saunders – has shared her own serious concerns regarding the provision of social care in Aberconwy.
Having been approached by an increasing number of distressed constituents, who have seen their relatives placed in social care facilities outside of Conwy County, Janet has now written to the Welsh Government calling for immediate action.
Commenting on the situation Janet said:
“It is totally unacceptable that individuals who have worked and contributed to our society their entire lives are being uprooted and moved across North Wales in order to receive the social care which they require.
“Taking the decision of moving a relative into a care or nursing home can already be a challenging and difficult for all involved. This shocking situation, which is seeing elderly and sometimes vulnerable individuals pulled away from their social network of family and friends, is of considerable concern and requires immediate action from the Welsh Government.
“For too long our social care system has been plagued by underfunding and mismanagement. It is time for the Welsh Government to step up to the plate and take the robust and immediate action required to address this situation. Every individual should have the opportunity to receive the social care they require whilst remaining within reach of their family and friends”.
