The Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy – Janet Finch-Saunders MS – has today sent her best wishes to those local businesses re-opening for indoor and expanded trade, using the moment to echo calls for a review of social distancing measures to ensure 'parity with England'.
Indoor hospitality trading is now back on the menu, and the region’s tourism operators reopen to expanded trade, as the country moves into alert level two. Cinemas and visitor attractions, such as museums and galleries, are also allowed to reopen in the latest round of lockdown easing.
Making clear her support of local traders, Janet said:
“I’m sending my very best wishes to all of our local businesses which are re-opening for indoor and expanded trade from today. These pillars of our regional economy have worked incredibly hard to make their venues Covid safe, underlining their wish to play a leading part in our nation’s recovery.
“Having heard about the strong demand being faced by our businesses, with many recording heavy bookings for the weeks to come, it is clear that local residents and our very welcome visitors are desperate to get out and support these essential job creators.
“This is yet another positive step in our long and steady march back to full trading resumption. Indeed, with all tourist accommodation now allowed to re-open for visitors from across the UK, it is my sincere hope that we will see the heart of the North Wales tourism offer beating proudly once more.
“I should now like our social distancing guidance to be reviewed, emphasising personal responsibility, to ensure parity with England. Indeed, over the border, businesses operate under a one-metre-plus rule, where people stay two metres apart or one metre with mitigations like a perspex screen.”
