Following a number of constituents raising concerns regarding potential pollution in the Conwy River, allegedly by a commercial property within Llanrwst, the Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, Janet Finch-Saunders, has written to Natural Resources Wales calling for an urgent investigation.
Commenting on the matter Janet said:
“Reports of potential pollution being released into the Conwy River is deeply troubling and presents a serious threat to the environmental health of our river and the surrounding area.
“Given this, I have written to Mr Martin Cox, Head of North Wales West Operations, Natural Resources Wales, requesting that immediate investigation works commence to identify whether the pollution has been released and if so to identify it’s source.
“This is the most recent report of potential pollution by a commercial property and is further evidence of the very concerning state of our water courses in Wales.
“Additionally this situation highlights the Welsh Government’s misaligned policy that seems to believe that only the agricultural industry can cause water pollution. It is time that the Welsh Government review their environmental protection policies to ensure they are not overburdensome on our farmers while failing to prevent other forms of water pollution.”
