Having recently written to UK supermarkets and retailers calling for a ban on the sale of disposable barbeques, the Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, Janet Finch-Saunders, has welcomed a response from Marks & Spencer who have confirmed that these products are not stocked in store and will not be over the summer months.
In their correspondence M&S stated:
“At M&S we do not have disposable BBQs on sale in our stores, nor will we be stocking any as we move into the summer months.
We take our commitment to becoming Net Zero by 2040 seriously”
Commenting on the news Janet said:
“I am truly delighted to see another major national retailer commit to not stocking these mobile bonfires in their stores as we rapidly approach the dry summer months.
“The potential for areas of incredible natural beauty to be lost, habitats to be destroyed or lives put at risk by disposable barbeques is reduced by every additional store refusing to stock these items. Given this I would like to take this opportunity to commend M&S for refusing to sell these products now or during the summer months.
“I am hopeful that more retails will take heed of my concerns and join the growing number of organisations removing these products from our shelves and in seeing re-useable barbeques used in their place.”
