Janet Finch-Saunders MS, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, has spoken of her delight that the majority of Planning Committee members, Conwy County Borough Council, have voted to reject the application to build 49 dwellings on Bodafon Fields, Nant-y-Gamar Road, Craig-y-Don.
The Member has worked tirelessly to oppose the scheme, presenting three extensive letters outlining planning policy routed reasons as to why the estate should not have the go ahead.
Commenting after the vote, Janet said:
“Anwyl should have concentrated on building homes in West Shore rather than submit an application for Craig-y-Don which has caused considerable distress.
“I believe that there are numerous examples of planning policy areas where the application is in breach, such as the mix of market housing types; the need to protect and, where appropriate, enhance cultural and heritage assets; possible impact on archaeological interests; shortage of parking spaces; no provision of electric vehicle charging points; the potential impact on Ysgol Gogarth and Llys Gogarth; and access to Ysgol Bodafon.
“I would like to thank those on the Planning Committee who have stood firm with the residents and democratically elected representatives of Aberconwy, from Town Council to Welsh Parliament, in voting to refuse permission for this development.
“Those members who have rejected the application have today voted in the best interest of the youngest and most vulnerable in society”.

Mae'r Aelod wedi gweithio'n ddiflino i wrthwynebu'r cynllun, gan gyflwyno tri llythyr helaeth yn amlinellu'r rhesymau pam na ddylai'r stad o dai gael sêl bendith.

“Dylai Anwyl fod wedi canolbwyntio ar adeiladu cartrefi ym Mhenmorfa yn hytrach na chyflwyno cais yng Nghraig-y-Don sydd wedi achosi cryn ofid.
“Rwy'n credu bod y cais wedi torri sawl maes polisi cynllunio, fel y gymysgedd o fathau o dai'r farchnad; yr angen i ddiogelu a, lle bo modd, gwella asedau diwylliannol a threftadaeth; effaith bosibl ar fuddiannau archeolegol; prinder llefydd parcio; dim darpariaeth pwyntiau gwefru cerbydau trydan; yr effaith bosibl ar Ysgol y Gogarth a Llys Gogarth; a mynediad i Ysgol Bodafon.
“Hoffwn ddiolch i aelodau'r Pwyllgor Cynllunio a safodd yn gadarn gyda thrigolion a chynrychiolwyr Aberconwy a etholwyd yn ddemocrataidd, o Gyngor y Dref i Senedd Cymru, wrth bleidleisio i wrthod caniatâd ar gyfer y datblygiad hwn.
“Mae'r aelodau hynny sydd wedi gwrthod y cais heddiw wedi pleidleisio er budd pobl ifanc a'r rhai mwyaf agored i niwed yn ein cymdeithas."
