I do hope that you are all enjoying the lovely summer weather we have experienced in recent weeks. For my part, I am certainly enjoying getting out and about in our beautiful constituency of Aberconwy during such lovely sunshine. I have been undertaking many visits to our local businesses, community groups, organisations and meeting numerous constituents during advice surgery meetings to discuss a whole host of issues affecting them.
Only recently, I was absolutely delighted to return to the Eglwysbach Agricultural & Horticultural Show after the pandemic had prevented it from taking place in recent years. It was marvellous to see the high standards of all the entries into the show and to see people of all ages enjoying the incredible displays and numerous stalls. Shows like these really do show Welsh produce at its very best.
I have also had the pleasure of recently visiting the incredible new Dylan’s store in Conwy and meeting with Mr Robin Hodgson, who along with Mr David Evans set up the Dylan’s food enterprise in 2012. It was outstanding to see this store already so busy with residents and visitors alike clearly keen to purchase Dylan’s prepared ready meals, homemade sauces, hampers and their renowned pizzas.
It is fair to say that Robin Hodgson & David Evans have big plans for the former Drew Pritchard Antique store. I was overjoyed to learn that the beautiful expanse of space on the upper floor is to be transformed into a spectacular restaurant and bar area. I am confident that this will be a welcome addition to the wealth of restaurants, bars and eateries that Conwy have to offer.
Recently I have also had the opportunity to attend an open day at Cae Drew Park in Llandudno Junction where a group of residents are coming together to achieve greater enhancements to the park, protecting the much loved green space and looking to potentially upgrade its play facilities. Furthermore, members of the group are fund raising for a local heart screening unit to be made available. It is truly heartening to see individuals come together for the betterment of their local area.
Additionally, many of you will know of my involvement in the Llandudno Hospital Action Group. This committee has been proactive in previous years in also raising concerns with senior management and have campaigned tirelessly to improve the services at this hospital. Indeed, substantial funding has been provided to this group by many supporters, enabling the committee to fight any needed campaign to protect our hospital.
Of course, due to the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions there have not been any formal meetings. However, I am delighted also in requesting a date for the next Annual General Meeting, this has now been scheduled for 10:30 am on 19/09/2022 in the Council Chamber at Llandudno Town Hall.
It would be heartened if people who are as equally keen to ensure the safeguarding health provision at Llandudno District General Hospital and would attend this meeting and perhaps become more involved in the works of the committee.
As the Summer enters its final stage I shall continue with my work across the constituency and holding the Welsh Government to account where I believe that it is not serving the residents of Aberconwy well.
