The Member of Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy – Janet Finch-Saunders MS – has commended the organisers of the Go North Wales Awards 2021, following an impressive night of success for local businesses. The organisation was, this year, celebrating 30 years since its formation, with its annual awards ceremony receiving over 200 applications. Hosted by Sian Lloyd, the ceremony took place at Venue Cymru.
Among the successes of the evening was Mr Glenn Evans, General Manager of the Royal Oak Hotel in Betws-Y-Coed, who took the award for Tourism and Hospitality Hero. Llandudno-based St David's Hospice were the proud recipients of the Resilience and Innovation Award, whilst Venue Cymru was named the winner of the Business Events and Incentive Travel.
Elsewhere in the constituency, Lyons Park who operate the Pendyffryn Hall Caravan Park & Country Club in Dwygyfylchi, took the Self Catering of the Year Award. Penderyn Distillery, who opened in Llandudno earlier this year after transforming the former Grade II listed Old Board School, also took an award having been named Go Attraction of the Year. Dr. Shyam Patiar, who was for many years the Director of Hospitality and Catering at Llandrillo College, was awarded the Go 30 Years Award in recognition of his immense contribution to the training of young people in this industry.
Commenting on the constituency’s success at the event, Janet said:
“I wish to sincerely commend Jim Jones and his team at Go North Wales for a sensational evening of celebration – both for the region’s hospitality and tourism sectors, but also marking 30 years of this important company that works tirelessly to promote our region to the rest of the world.
“The purpose of these fantastic awards is to celebrate excellence in our region’s hospitality and tourism sectors, whilst also allowing us to showcase the achievements, hard work and dedication of those working in the industry. After such a considerable time of challenge for these essential industries, it was a real joy to toast to the resilience shown by these businesses.
“Congratulations to all of the evening’s winners and shortlisted businesses. The strength and variety of the businesses on display, with some truly ingenious innovation taking place, goes some way to underline why we are the crown of the Welsh tourism offer.
“Combined with our reputation as a hub of gastronomic delights, and as the adventure capital of the UK, I hope these awards will encourage yet more visitors to come, visit and spend in our communities. I could not be prouder to call the constituency of Aberconwy, and North Wales, home.”
