Members from across the community came together virtually on Friday afternoon to discuss the proposed Bodafon fields development.
The well-attended public meeting organised by the Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy – Janet Finch-Saunders MS – saw representatives from Anwyl, Satplan Ltd, Ysgol y Gogarth, Ysgol Bodafon, and the wider community consider numerous aspects of the proposal, including the potential knock-on impact to the students of Ysgol y Gogarth, highway issues, and property designs.
Commenting after the meeting, Janet said:
“I was most pleased to convene this important public meeting, providing residents and local stakeholders with a valuable opportunity to question those behind the development. I have been clear that transparency remains key to any housing project, and so it is only right that concerns are given the space to be reviewed and discussed.
“The meeting recognised concerns over access to Nant y Gamar Road and the potential that this development could add to entrenched concerns about the safety of parents and children crossing the highway. Issues were also raised about the potential impact of the building work on Ysgol y Gogarth, as well as other local services, and so there exists a clear need for further review.
“With our region becoming a more attractive destination to live and work, we all recognise the need for more housing to be built across the constituency of Aberconwy. However, this contingency site looks to have increasingly become the thin edge of the green wedge, with a potential knock-on impact to the environment and wildlife.
“I have consistently been clear that any proposals must work in harmony with the existing infrastructure. I look forward to undertaking more sessions with the community on this sensitive matter. Indeed, I continue to encourage residents to contact my office should they have a concern, so that all views can be registered.”
