On the first anniversary of the sinking of the Nicola Faith, and tragic loss of Carl McGrath, Ross Ballantine, and Alan Minard, Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, has vowed that we will remember them and their families on this very difficult anniversary.
The Nicola Faith failed to return to Conwy Harbour on 27 January 2021.
Commenting on this important anniversary, Janet, who has worked with the families throughout, said:
“Carl, Ross, Alan, and all their families and friends are in my thoughts at this extremely difficult time. I would like to commend the bravery shown by all of them in seeking answers and creating a lasting legacy.
“The tragedy saw party politics set aside for the common good with cooperation between the Welsh Government Minister, Lesley Griffiths MS, and me resulting in the Rhodri Morgan research vessel being utilised to help locate the Nicola Faith.
“We also saw a tremendous effort by the Marine Accident Investigation Branch, led by Capt. Jae Jones AFNI and his team. We await their report as to how this devastating accident happened.
“I will never forget the huge effort made by the RNLI, Coast Guard, local fishermen, and MAIB.
“Whilst the family and our community continue to heal, I vow to continue using the levers at my disposal to ensure that Carl, Ross, and Alan are not forgotten, and that our nation does everything possible to help avert such a disaster occurring again."
