The Welsh Government has rejected Conwy County Borough Council’s proposal for CRMP funding to see sand returned to North Shore beach.
According to a report published by Conwy County Borough Council (C.C.B.C.), the Welsh Governments Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management branch (FCERM), have stated that the return of sand to North Shore “does not appear to provide any additional flood risk management benefits”.
Instead, the Welsh Government appear to be encouraging C.C.B.C. to ditch the proposal and move forward with a plan to include the raising of the sea wall and adaption of existing structures however, this would not see sand returned to foreshore.
Commenting on the new Janet said:
“I am deeply disappointed with the response from the Welsh Government, the option most widely supported by residents, visitors, business owners and the previous Local Authority administration is to see the sand that has been covered by thousands of tonnes of quarry stone restored. It is clear that once again the Welsh Labour Government, in Cardiff Bay, is failing the people of Aberconwy and North Wales. They have simply chosen to ignore the need of our tourism sector here.
“Llandudno is without doubt the Queen of the Welsh Resorts and our local tourist and hospitality industry is an essential part of the local economy, providing thousands of jobs across North Wales. It is shambolic that although we have a fabulous promenade, much of the beach cannot be accessed by children, the elderly and the disabled because of these huge rocks.
“I will be challenging the Welsh Government on its recent decision, and I will continue to work with all interested parties to see a programme of works rolled out to restore Llandudno’s North Shore sandy beach.”

Llywodraeth Cymru yn rhwystro ailgyflwyno tywod i Draeth y Gogledd, Llandudno
Mae Llywodraeth Cymru wedi gwrthod cynnig Cyngor Bwrdeistref Sirol Conwy am arian y Rhaglen Rheoli Risgiau Arfordirol er mwyn ailgyflwyno tywod i Draeth y Gogledd.
Yn ôl adroddiad a gyhoeddwyd gan Gyngor Bwrdeistref Sirol Conwy (Cyngor Conwy), mae cangen Rheoli Perygl Llifogydd ac Erydu Arfordirol Llywodraethau Cymru, wedi dweud nad yw dychwelyd tywod i Draeth y Gogledd i'w weld "yn darparu unrhyw fuddion ychwanegol o ran rheoli perygl llifogydd”.
Yn hytrach, mae'n debyg bod Llywodraeth Cymru yn annog Cyngor Conwy i anghofio am y cynigion hyn a symud ymlaen gyda chynnig a fyddai'n cynnwys codi wal y môr ac addasu'r strwythurau presennol heb ailgyflwyno tywod i'r traeth.
Meddai Janet:
“Rwy'n siomedig iawn gydag ymateb Llywodraeth Cymru, gan mai’r dewis sy’n cael ei ffafrio gan y rhan fwyaf o drigolion, rhanddeiliaid a gweinyddiaeth flaenorol yr Awdurdod Lleol oedd ailgyflwyno tywod i Draeth y Gogledd. Mae'n amlwg unwaith eto nad yw Llywodraeth Lafur y De yn gwrando ar bobl Aberconwy a’r Gogledd.
“Llandudno yw brenhines trefi glan môr Cymru ac mae'r diwydiant twristiaeth a lletygarwch lleol yn rhan hanfodol o'r economi leol, gan ddarparu cannoedd o swyddi i bobl ar hyd a lled y rhanbarth. O gofio hyn, mae'n hollbwysig bod y cerrig chwarel hyn yn cael eu symud oddi yno a thywod yn dychwelyd.
“Byddwn yn annog Llywodraeth Cymru i ailystyried y penderfyniad a gweithio'n adeiladol gyda thrigolion, rhanddeiliaid a Chyngor Conwy ar raglen waith i adfer Traeth y Gogledd Llandudno.
