The Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, Janet Finch-Saunders MS, in undertaking a visit to St Winifred’s Supported Accommodation in Llandudno, has praised the support provided for local individuals with high needs. As well as meeting with Kelly Issacs, the owner and manager of the home, Janet also met with residents Caroline, Fay, and Clive.
During the visit, Janet was delighted to learn of the different activities residents pursue, such as gardening, painting, and dog training. She was particularly touched by the care which the team clearly show towards residents, and the wonderful family St Winifred’s has become.
Speaking after the visit, Janet said:
“It was delightful to meet with Kelly and the residents of St Winifred’s Supported Accommodation, which crucially provides accommodation and support for individuals with high needs. This family business, which was originally started by Kelly’s in-laws, has become a trusted part of the community with some residents under their care for many years.
“The past challenging eighteen months has reaffirmed the essential work carried out by those in the social care sector. Our caring champions work tirelessly to lovingly care for some of society’s most vulnerable. In now looking towards our recovery period, there is certainly steps that can be taken in the here and now to support our care providers.
“It is vital that the communication channels between elected officials and those on the frontline remain open, if changes are to be enacted. This is why I was most concerned to hear of the struggle to get crisis intervention in place.
“Taken in conjunction with concerns raised around a lack of occupational health service, these are actionable concerns that I will now look to raise with officials in both the local authority and Welsh Government.”
