Following a three weeklong water leak at Gilfach Road, Penmaenmawr, Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Senedd for Aberconwy, has been pleased to work with Welsh Water to plug the problem in 24hours.
Having been contacted this week by residents of Penmaenmawr who repeatedly sought assurances from Welsh Water that the matter would be addressed, the Member of the Senedd immediately intervened to ensure that the leak was stopped.
The burst has now been repaired and temporary road works were in place overnight.
Commenting on the leak, Janet said:
“Penmaenmawr residents are rightly frustrated with the handling of the leak which saw water running down a highway for around three weeks.
“As I made clear to the Head of Strategic Communications, when considering that we are in the middle of the coldest time of year, and regularly encounter
freezing temperatures, the continued presence of the flow of water from their infrastructure posed a health and safety risk.
“Whilst I am thankful to Welsh Water for responding quickly to my concerns, I wish that the organisation operated in a more proactive way which reduces the amount of time and annoyance caused to residents before problems are solved”.
The Member will be scrutinising Welsh Water in Climate Change, Environment, and Infrastructure Committee, Welsh Parliament, on the issue of pipe infrastructure, water quality and combatting discharges, this week.
