ABERCONWY AM highlights Local Authority concerns on Local Government reform proposals
During today’s Spokesperson’s Questions to the Minister for Public Services, Shadow Minister for Local Government and Assembly Member for Aberconwy Janet Finch-Saunders, asked Leighton Andrews AM to comment on Local Authority fears regarding his proposals.
The Member highlighted the concerns of Conwy and Denbighshire Councils which have expressed criticisms of the Welsh Government’s White Paper on Reforming Local Government: Power to Local People. Conwy fear that some plans will, ‘disaggregate Local Government, create an even more complex structure, limit economies of scale and potentially confuse the general public.’
The AM asked the Minister:
“What are your responses to these quite sensible concerns and can you assure me that they will be adequately addressed going forward?”
The Member added:
“The anxieties expressed in the White Paper’s consultation responses cannot be ignored. The Minister must address each and every one before the drafting of his second Local Government Bill.”
