The Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy – Janet Finch-Saunders MS – has written to the leader of Conwy County Borough Council, Cllr Charlie McCoubrey, to make clear concerns over restricted access to public toilets.
Whilst the Local Authority’s website states that all facilities are now open, bar one in Llandudno Junction, it has been alleged to the Member that this information may not be accurate. Indeed, serious concerns have been raised about the continued closure of amenities at the Great Orme Visitor Centre.
Commenting on her letter, Janet said:
“Whilst I am pleased to hear of the gradual reopening of facilities, I am concerned to hear of the continued closure of the amenities at the Great Orme Visitor Centre. The site is a major attraction, enjoyed by locals and visitors alike, and so this must be remedied as a priority.
“I have also asked the local authority to review the fact that there are no public toilets at Cwm Penmachno, Dolgarrog, and Ty’n y Groes. With our region's businesses working hard to entice visitors to assist with our economic recovery, the lack of amenities may hinder any potential progress.
“In this day and age, I believe that it is unsustainable to allow the lack of adequate toilet facilities to impact on a person’s physical and mental health, as well as affect the wider environmental health of the population.
“In readily recognising the current financial pressure that all authorities are under, I have made clear in my letter to the Council Leader that I shall be pleased to raise the matter with the Welsh Government should resources continue to be a barrier to progress.”
